Gonzales High School

Junior

My name is Carmen Dominguez, I am 16 years old, and I am currently a junior at Gonzales High school. My current goal in life is to graduate high school with a 4.0 GPA, my future is concise yet impactful. I want to attend college for 2 years, then transfer to a 4-year university, maybe Colorado, and study to be a veterinarian. As an artist, I want to inspire people and allow them to express themselves freely, which is why the idea of dandelions attracted me.

When I create artwork, I ask myself what can I create that speaks to people? My art work focuses on the movement of nature. The freedom that nature portrays can relieve a sense of stress, while enabling people to feel free of their worries. When I create artwork that focuses on the technique of pointillism, I begin with color pencils to create an outline of my image. Pointillism is an intricate form of art that contains plenty of detail. Once my outline is completed I create depth in my art piece by using fine tip pens. The fine detail in pointillism gives art pieces a sense of realism, due to its complexity.

The piece I am submitting focuses on dandelions. The art work I created focuses on nature, specifically the ability to regenerate. Dandelions are known to regenerate, thrive, and transform. I believe that art speaks to many individuals, whether that is in a positive or in a negative connotation. This art piece grew out of experience, on how challenging it was to change environments but still be able to thrive in an unknown area.
