The current work that I have done for the show is an acrylic painting, which was something new for me because I usually work more with watercolor. Through this process, I learned a lot more about acrylics, like that heavy body acrylics aren’t supposed to be used to create the actual piece but are mainly used for texture. I found that it’s really hard to make a skin color out of acrylics, so I ended up using gouache. Other than the difficulties I had, I was determined to keep the painting colorful and somewhat elegant. Originally I wanted it to show the transitioning of autumn to winter, but it looked more like a burial. I went with the scenery and decided to sketch up flowers depending on the season. I wanted the painting to depict a story of another person, and the end of their life. People focus on how to treat others based on gender, race, sexuality, and ethnicity; many think they are better than others and should be treated better than them. But in the end, everyone dies the same. We are all human, after all. This painting is supposed to depict this fact, it’s a symbol of equality.
