Junior

My name is Katrina Bauer, and I’m a junior at Stevenson High School.

Creating art is simply a natural expression of who I am. Picasso said, “Every child is an artist.” And I really took this to heart in my childhood.

Art for me is about beauty—a source of hope and joy. Our landscape in Carmel and Pebble Beach is breathtaking. The fog moving through the mountains, oaks, cypresses and pines painted a dream that settles in my mind. I developed a special pouring technique with acrylic paint to portray the impression. This technique is greatly inspired by the Chinese artist, Chang Dai-Chien, who settled in Carmel-by-the-Sea in 1967 for ten years. Like the expressionistic paintings of Chang, this technique captures the conscious state of mind or predominate emotion that is unique to Carmel.
