Personally, I have always loved the macabre as I grew up watching horror movies and reading scary stories. It was through these mediums that I learned about cryptids, and more specifically: Mothman. I always loved how he could be depicted as an insect-like beast, or a simple fluffy moth. My piece captures the whimsical, yet intimidating cryptid. I wanted to capture how in most stories about him, he is depicted as a beast that looms over its witnesses, with the help of adding feathers to bring him to life. I also wanted to capture the dreamier side of him that has become popularized in later years thanks to its recent rise in pop culture with saturated colors like the blues, purples, and pinks that are used in my piece. The glitter also lends a helping hand of adding to the dream-like piece, as it embodies the feeling of what someone who witnesses him may feel.
