This painting is to commemorate my first dog, Keren. Keren was named after the dog in the novel “Soldier and Dog” by the famous Chinese writer Geling Yan. In the story Keren will secretly swap slippers between the secret lovers, which helps them to interact. One day, a couple that Keren had set up was caught by the Captain, so the girl was forced out of the troop and died of suicide. Keren represents the freedom to love and experience youth, so I have added a lot of colors to the dog, contrasting with the black background. My Keren was just the same. Although he sadly passed away when I was three, I have always remembered the happy memories we shared.
